Cozy Home is a program-partnered airsealing and insulation contractor for:

After your ‘free’ (rate-payer funded) energy assessment, you can request that Cozy Home be your air sealing and insulation installer. We will provide our advanced home performance services in a sub-contracting relationship with the Lead Vendor organizations that provide your ‘free’ assessment.

How do Mass Save services compare to private, non-Mass Save services?

All our work is done by the same expert and Certified technicians, yet due to current limitations of the Mass Save program the approach varies between our custom and Mass Save services

Cozy Home Performance
* based on building science:

 

• option to use any materials available- often in a mixed assembly
• option to bring basement into the ‘thermal envelope’, saving precious waste heat from furnace/boiler
• option to improve crawlspaces by keeping cold out at the perimeter
• advanced airsealing to maximize the air-barrier
• attic insulation recommended to R-60 in New England climate (16″ of cellulose)
• install ventilation equipment to benefit indoor air quality and designed with thermal boundary
• real pricing: historic home components and potential challenges communicated at the beginning
• performance based: guaranteed airleakage reduction targets, option for energy modeling, guaranteed results.

Mass Save
*based on building science and utility standards/ state DPU regulation:

• no use of high-R closed cell spray foam
• no insulation on basement walls
• no insulation on crawlspace walls
• only 8 “man-hours” of airsealing recommended
• attic insulation up to R-38 (10″ of cellulose)
• ventilation issues treated as a ‘roadblock’
• fixed pricing: modern simple house treated like historic complex house
• prescriptive measures- not performance based

Cozy Home Performance uses building science as a guide to improve your home. As Mass Save installers we will advocate for you so you get the most value from available utility rebates and incentives and can have greater options for improving your home.

We will explain how our advanced home performance services can interface with the Mass Save program. Often a hybrid approach is practical- do some initial Mass Save work and follow up with advanced Home Performance work. Your project can be designed in phases, and each measure will have ‘good, better, or best’ determinations.

Why can’t Cozy Home Performance provide my Mass Save energy assessment?

For other utilities, there are a very limited number of approved energy assessment providers that are contracted with utility companies to provide these ‘free’ (rate payer funded) services. Cozy Home Performance is looking forward to being able to provide an integrated Home Performance services to all Western MA utility customers  in early 2011.
